‘Sliocht’ is the debut solo album by traditional flute player, Frances Morton. It is due for release digitally on 6 December 2024.

Meaning ‘trace’ or ‘lineage’, ‘Sliocht’ reflects Frances’ family and musical heritage from Scotland and Ireland. She has compiled selections of jigs, reels, strathspeys and marches from her extensive repertoire of Irish and Scottish music and collaborates here with top-class musicians with whom she has played over the years.

Produced by guitarist Eamon McElholm (of Solas fame) the album also features Ciarán Tourish (previously Altan) on fiddle and sean-nós singer from Gaoth Dobhair, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde.

Mark Maguire (Deaf Shepherd) and Seamus O’Kane play bodhrán on several tracks and Ryan O’Donnell and Malcolm Stitt (also Deaf Shepherd) perform bouzouki. Julie Langan, fiddle player from Mayo joins Frances on one track.

Frances Morton is a celebrated flute-player from Glasgow. She won several All-Ireland medals and became active in the session scenes across Scotland and Ireland. She has performed at festivals and concerts across Europe and the USA and has appeared in programmes on BBC and TG4.

Dr Fintan Vallely, who wrote the foreword to the album said: “Here is a tremendous player in her prime, terrific tune selections and mighty collaboration from accompanists.”
