Press Release
Life is the debut, charity album from Gemma Mae Anderson. After being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of just 17, she now has spent more of her life with the autoimmune disease than without it.
With a deep-rooted love for music, she is using her voice to raise money for Versus Arthritis. The 12 original tracks on the album span genres like country, pop and rock and have a variety of Shetlanders using their collective talents to pen accompaniments for the songs. The album was recorded and mixed in the Mareel Recording Studio by Tim Matthew and Jonathan Ritch.
Pulp keyboardist Candida Doyle, who has Shetland family links and herself was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis as a teenager, also appears on one track. Doyle, in fact, picked Gemma as a women ‘making a difference’ in the music industry as part of a BBC features last year:
“She’s done something with a situation that I’ve lived with and made something positive with it.”
Raising money for this charity could help find more effective treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis and possibly a cure (I’m ever hopeful!).
