Press Release

Freedom of Sound are Scottish-based writers and musicians Alan Cunningham (Keyboards) and Steve Harrison (Bass). Writing mainly in the instrumental Jazz genre, Freedom of Sound has recently focused their attention on producing a twelve-track CD featuring the vocal talents of session singer Amanda Lyon. Their debut album Sunshine is a powerful uplifting journey in the soul, funk, gospel and blues genres.

In 2015 Alan Cunningham and Steve Harrison decided to pursue their shared musical interests and started writing, recording and producing a wide variety of instrumental pieces with an emphasis on big accessible melodies suitable for theme tunes.

A small record company, who were showing some interest in their music, asked what the writers could do within a song format and, shortly after, the backing track to ‘I Am Your Friend’ was recorded. Having worked together briefly in a studio session in 1990, the natural choice for vocals for this Gospel inspired piece was experienced session singer Amanda Lyon.

The trio were so pleased with the results that they decided to continue writing and recording with a view to an album release.

A chance meeting, in Edinburgh, with Essex based DJ Nigel Waymark led to some early and unplanned radio airplay on several internet and FM stations.

‘Dancing In The Rain’ – “A classy soulful track which I loved the first time I heard it. One for the SoulBeat Dance charts for sure”  SoulBeat Radio

If early interest continues, plans for the future include doing some live shows where the music will inevitably take on another dimension and resonate at an even deeper level with the audience.
