He has toured the UK extensively appearing at festivals etc from Looe in Cornwall to Belladrum in the Scottish Highlands.
As a solo artist Dougie also organises, hosts and performs at a very successful monthly acoustic music gathering. Attracting and encouraging mostly new singer/songwriters and meeting in the very welcoming Velocity Cafe, Inverness he has been running this for over 6 years now. This purely acoustic music evening attracts local guests and visiting artists from all over the world.
Dougie recorded three albums with Bluebelly and there is a compilation of the band “13 Years” on all digital outlets .
With the Cadillacs he has an EP “Keep Your Mad Hat On” out and a previous solo album “California Cadillac “ also available online.
This new album “Martha” is dedicated to Dougie’s mother and has a slightly country / Americana / blues /gospel feel to it . Personal songs with stories about family and heart on the sleeve insecurities with a little bit of humour and a lot of love.
Ten songs written by Dougie and one, a Gospel type rouser, “The Arms of Our Father” written at a Highland songwriting retreat along with host Boo Hewerdine and fellow participants Peter Kirkbride and Francesca Murphy. Special guests on this album include Dougie’s brother Campbell from Glasgow rock band Trident playing lead guitar on “Take My Hand (Let’s Rock & Roll)”. Martin Stephenson (The Daintees) plays slide guitar on “Keep Your Mad Hat On”.
“Music is what Dougie loves best and for more years than he’ll probably care to admit, he’s been a familiar face on the Highland music scene playing the sort of music that makes people want to get up and dance.” Press & Journal
“The last song the band played ‘California Cadillac’ was stuck in my head for most of the weekend, and even driving home down the A9 I caught myself singing it.” Marc Sinet, Discovery Music
“If I was hosting a house party with a live band, and a living room big enough to accommodate them, I’d be on the phone to Dougie.” Frank Finlayson : Inverness Gigs
