Press Release

DEÒ is the much anticipated second album from Beinn Lee, following on from their 2018 debut album OSGARRA. The six-piece band from Uist in the Outer Hebrides was formed in 2013 and are rooted in the Gaelic west coast style of traditional music. Renowned piper Fred Morrison described their music as “a breath of fresh air”: “the feel of the Uist music runs beautifully throughout the album and the sensitive vocals and top drawer musicianship add up to one of the most exciting musical prospects I have heard in a long time.”

The band are very excited to release DEÒ, an album which has been two and a half years in the making, which showcases a number of new compositions by members of band, including original songs in both Gaelic and English and their 2019 single Anam Saor, as well as many of their favourite tunes that they have been playing for years. In this album the band have pushed the boundaries of their sound further, while also reflecting on what is core to their music: the feeling of returning to music in 2021 highlighted the band’s roots with traditional tunes and bringing people together to dance. That fundamental aspect of the band’s music is part of DEÒ and compliments lots of new material borne out of the band’s strong ambition to drive Gaelic music forward in new ways.

The collective inheritance of Gaelic song and west coast pipe music of members Micheal Steele, Pàdruig Morrison, Mairi Thérèse Gilfedder, James Stewart, Anna Black, and Seoras Lewis provide a very strong Gaelic traditional backbone to their music, but their music of contemporary and self-penned tunes and songs are infused with diverse modern influences. The instrumentation of pipes/flute, accordion, fiddle, guitar, piano, drums and vocals provide the band with a sound that has seen them successfully perform across the country for weddings and festivals. The band have performed all across Scotland, as well as in Belgium, at festivals such as Celtic Connections, Heb Celt, Tiree Music Festival, and the closing act for the Eilean Dorcha festival 2019. Supporting Skipinnish at the Barrowlands in October 2021 was a particular highlight of late.
