Angus Smith and North 56 create a new and unique Celtic rock sound. The core 5-piece rock band is enhanced on the album by some of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians. The songs and instrumentals on this album are all original compositions, written by Angus.

Angus is an award winning singer and songwriter from Oban on the west coast of Scotland. His credits include – Mòd Gold Medalist 1998, best new Gaelic song for ‘Tha mi seo‘ and Calmac Culture Music 2016 finalist. The songs in Gaelic and English speak of hope, of love, of our shared humanity and identity, with a spiritual longing evident in the lyrics. The album was recorded by Finlay Wells at Nutshell Music, Oban. Mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering. Artwork, design and manufacture was handled by Birnam CD. The album was produced by Angus Smith and Finlay Wells.

1. Solas An instrumental track featuring Angus on lead guitar. ‘Soulful … a bit Pink Floydish’…(facebook quotes).

2. Tha mi seo The song was judged best new Gaelic song at the 1st ‘Seinn Seo’ Festival in Stornoway. The song speaks of the revival of the Gaelic language through our children. It features the voices of the next generation of Gaelic speakers – children from Oban and Appin.

3. Anna Dannsa A simple song of the joy of life, of music, of dance, of the ceilidh. Gaelic lyrics. The song was inspired by Angus’ daughter Anna.

4. One Day The title track, in a celtic rock style. Lyrics are in Scots and Gaelic, a song of aspiration and hope. ‘One day we will climb up the highest mountain’.

5. Your Eyes A love song. A ballad of our journey through life together … ‘One true love is all you’ll ever need’.

6. 40 Days A love song with a strong country and gospel vibe – big backing vocals.

7. Shine A gospel inspired song with a positive biblical message for humanity – ‘love your neighbour as yourself… shine your light on the world’. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to ‘love your God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength….and love your neighbour as yourself‘ (Matthew 12:29/31).

8. Blue Sky Written at Dalbeg, a beautiful beach on the west coast of Lewis, on a sunny day, blue sky above, love all around, … ‘this is the place I want to be, blue sky, Hebridean sea’.

9. Rubi’s Reel An instrumental track. A lively set of electric reels, starts in a traditional style then heads into Hendrix influenced lead guitar work.

10. Òran Keira A song written for Angus’ daughter Keira. The reel played by Michael and Joanie Garvin was written for Keira,18 years earlier, by Dougie Pincock.

11. Out In The Cold A love song featuring the voice and lead guitar of Angus with haunting Celtic whistles from Dougie Pincock.

12. An Tobar A pipe tune written by Angus, An Tobar meaning the well. Played by Angus MacColl, world champion piper and friend. A longer version features on the earlier traditional album Òrain by Angus Smith, available on itunes.

13. I Am Here A song of hope – ‘I am here … can you hear me … reaching out across the world… one voice on the wind forever’. This is a remix of ‘Tha mi seo’ , with English and Gaelic lyrics.
