Nominations are open for the Scottish Awards for New Music 2019 – the awards event takes place on Monday 13th May at the Drygate Brewery in Glasgow. The awards celebrate the depth and breadth of Scotland’s vibrant contemporary music scene, champion the work of Scotland’s composers, musicians, sound artists, programmers, producers and ensembles, and showcase the innovative, experimental and ground-breaking work taking place in Scotland.

The twelve categories for nominations include:

  • EVM Award for Electroacoustic/Sound Art Work
  • The Dorico Award for Small Scale New Work sponsored by Steinberg (1-10 performers)
  • Large Scale New Work (11+ performers)
  • New Music Recording of the Year
  • Collaboration in New Music
  • Community/Education Project
  • Contribution to New Music in Scotland
  • New Music Performer(s) of the Year
  • Creative Programming
  • The Good Spirts company award for Innovation in New Folk Music
  • Innovation in New Jazz Music
  • Making It Happen

XpoNorth – Music showcase opportunity

XpoNorth – Music showcase opportunity. Musicians and filmmakers are invited to apply to showcase at XpoNorth, a conference and showcase festival, which takes place in Inverness on 3rd and 4th July 2019.

XpoNorth showcases a wide range of music, short films and provides networking opportunities. It also offers a packed daytime programme of seminars and workshops featuring leading local, national and international professionals from across the creative sector.

Music & Films can be submitted until midnight on Monday 8th April 2019. A selection of the musicians invited to perform at XpoNorth will also be put forward for consideration to play the XpoNorth Stage at the multi-award winning Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Free Delegate Registration for XpoNorth 2019 is also open.

Showcase & funding opportunity – Made in Scotland Showcase 2019 – deadline 22.11.8.

Made in Scotland celebrates the wealth and diversity of work that is currently being produced in Scotland. It’s a curated showcase which aims to raise the international profile of Scottish artists by promoting high-quality music, theatre and dance to international promoters and audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Made In Scotland is a partnership between the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, Federation of Scottish Theatres, Scottish Music Centre and Creative Scotland.

Funding is intended to support the costs of presenting work at the Fringe. The work can be new or an existing production which will be re-staged at the Fringe.

Who can apply – individuals, groups and organisations based in Scotland and working in theatre, dance and music – applications can be submitted from individual artists, companies, organisations, ensembles, promoters, bands and record labels.

Onward International Touring – One of the key aims of Made in Scotland is to maximise the benefit for Scottish artists on international platforms – funding is available to support any work created in Scotland which attracts interest from international promoters as a result of being showcased at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Nominations are open for the 2018 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.

Hands Up for Trad have opened nominations for this year’s MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. The public have until Sunday 14th October to nominate in each of the eighteen categories which include Composer of the Year and Album of the Year.

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards celebrates excellence in traditional music. Honouring artists, instrumentalists, composers and singer-songwriters plus phenomenal performances from some of the biggest names in traditional music, the ceremony recognises outstanding musical talent from all over Scotland.

We’re delighted once again to sponsor the Trad Album of the Year.  The award shines a light on the traditional recording industry and showcases the vast number of albums released each year in the trad and folk music genre.

Music Funding opportunity – Women Make Music supports the development of outstanding women songwriters and composers of all genres and backgrounds at different stages of their career.

The aims of Women Make Music are:

To break down assumptions and stereotypes within the music industry by encouraging role models for future generations

To raise awareness of the gender gap and to ensure that women are aware that support for new music is available to them

To increase the profile of women who are creating new music in the UK

To encourage women who may otherwise not have applied for PRS Foundation funding to do so

Women Make Music offers grants of up to £5,000. The fund can support projects by women songwriters, composers, artists, bands and performers who are writing their own music.

The funding includes support for:

  • touring
  • recording
  • promotion and marketing
  • exciting community projects involving high-quality music creators
  • music creator residencies
  • live performances featuring new UK music

Trad Album of the Year 2018 – open for nominations

The Scots Trad Music Awards 2018 – The Trad Album of the Year highlights the trad recording industry and showcases the vast number of albums which are released each year in the trad/folk music genre. Albums eligible for entry are those released between September 2017 and August 2018 and must have more than 6 tracks or 40 mins of material. Only albums within the folk/trad genre are eligible for this award.

The Longlist (20 releases), decided by an industry panel, will be announced in October 2018. The shortlist (10 releases), decided by 50% industry panel and 50% public, will be announced in November. The winner will be announced at the Scots Trad Music Awards on 1st December, Perth Concert Hall.

Music Funding – The Open Fund for Music Creators supports the development of outstanding songwriters and composers of all genres and backgrounds at different stages of their career. The fund can support projects by songwriters, composers, or artists, bands, producers and performers who are writing their own music or commissioning others.

The Open Fund for Music Creators offers grants of up to £5,000.

Funding includes support of:

  • touring
  • music creator residencies
  • promotion and marketing
  • commissions of new music by UK-based creators*
  • exciting community projects involving high-quality music creators
  • recording
  • live performances featuring new UK music

‘commission’ is defined as a music creator or group engaged by a third party to create a new piece of music.

SAY Awards 2018

The Scottish Album of The Year Award, otherwise known as the ‘SAY Award’, established in 2012, is a prestigious and exciting arts prize which has a £20,000 first prize and a further 9 runner up prizes of £1,000 each.

The Longlist of 20 was announced at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on the 1st August. The SAY Award Longlist promotion runs from Monday 6th August until Sunday 19th August –  the SAYlonglist Albums of the Day will be shared on social media using #SAYlonglist18 – check out The Say Award on Twitter @SAYaward, Facebook facebook.com/SAYaward.

A public vote will run from the 20 – 22nd August and the SAY Award shortlist will be announced on the 23rd August. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony which will take place on Thursday 6th September in Paisley Town Hall.
