This fine album has been superbly crafted with mesmerising soundscapes and exceptional solo playing, with Guitar, Sax, Harmonica and Keyboards over a tight rhythm framework, interpreting some diverse, but insightful and lyrical songs that will appeal to a wide range of informed listeners across Folk, Contemporary Folk, Folk-Rock and Rock genres.

This is the third CD from Elis Macfadyen and shows how his Songwriting skills bring to life a wide variety of subjects from political, social and family circumstances to his extensive travels. From the West Highland Line to Flying Saucers and from Dementia to Established Criminality via enchanting love stories and underworld goings on in the Dark side of Town! The tragedy of death at childbirth (The Moon hides his face) and a tribute to Singer/Songwriter John Prine.

The soft, warm vocals with fingerpicking acoustic guitar style that Elis is known for, are complimented with session and gigging musicians delivering a full band sound. The album producer Isaac Sutherland played Drums, Bass, acoustic, electric and resonator guitars, sang backing vocals and is joined by Bado Reti – Upright Bass and frame drum, Spider MacKenzie – Harmonica, Gordon Bowie – Alto Sax, Andrew Macfarlane – Various keyboards, Wind instruments and Banjolele and Michal Jesionowski – Soprano Sax. Recorded by Isaac at his Preas Records in Hawick and in Beauly.

A very fine album that demonstrates Elis’s craft skills and is an example of the creativity he aspires to with his writing, on a diverse list of subjects, in different styles, tempos and moods. There are no weak songs on this album, this is one to play again and loud!
