Ronald MacDonald’s first solo album, Time Stands Still, has grown out of a lifelong love for music and playing guitar. In the late 1970’s whilst studying at University Ronald played in a five-piece band called Flyer, based in the Scottish central belt, and he wrote all the songs for the band which were in the jazz funk genre. Further studies in Manchester led to Ronald cofound the jazz funk band Sidewinder which also played original music and had various residencies around Manchester, including the prestigious Band on the Wall.
Sidewinder split in 1982 and although Ronald had the opportunity to become a session guitarist for a major UK rock band he instead opted for a duller, but perhaps safer, career as a professional economist. However, as the years passed Ronald started to generate an interest in more creative pursuits such as landscape photography and song writing and over the last few years penned seven of the eight songs that appear on the current album.
Some of the music on the album was recorded in Ronald’s home studio in Skye but most of the music was recorded at North Lodge recording studio in the central belt of Scotland. Ronald’s guitar playing and singing are ably supported on the album by a variety of leading Scottish musicians, such as Ross McFarlane on drums, Bill Dick on bass and Lorna Osborne on vocals. The album was engineered, mixed and mastered by Stuart McCredie.
