Beauties of the North is the culmination of a project Paul Anderson began thirteen years ago to present an album of slow airs and laments from the incredibly rich Scots fiddle tradition.
A renowned master of performing slow airs and one of Scotland’s most respected fiddle players and composers, Paul has released an album of his favourites including melodies by iconic figures Niel Gow, William Marshall and James Scott Skinner. Never intended to be a definitive collection of Scottish airs and melodies but his own favourites, Paul has included several of his own compositions and, although many pieces are unaccompanied, he’s joined by the impressive talents of Tony McManus, Dave Sinton and the late George Donald.
Recorded and engineered by Dave Sinton, Paul said “this is without a doubt the finest recording of my own playing I’ve heard and comes closest to capturing what I feel I actually sound like live. I’m also delighted to have had the opportunity to record with Dave Sinton playing the amazing Combolins which were invented and built by the late Roy Williamson of The Corries.”
